Quality of Life
Down by an old mill stream nestled in a valley surrounded by rolling hills lies the little village of New Dundee. Only an hour from Toronto and London and just twenty minutes from the Kitchener-Waterloo International Airport, New Dundee abuts the cities of Kitchener and Cambridge. Yet, despite its proximity to urban sprawl, New Dundee has not lost any of its rural charm.
New Dundee is a peaceful, friendly town in which to live. Opportunities to meet others abound. There is a strong feeling of ‘connectedness’ and a sense of belonging one experiences from living or visiting in New Dundee. Streets are clean and safe and properties are well looked after. Neighbours look out for each other.
New Dundee boasts 4 churches, a library, a post office, a public school, a community center, a volunteer fire department and a small but vibrant commercial area. Parkland, a lake and world class baseball diamonds offer residents plenty of leisure activity. Buildings, however, don’t make a safe, inviting community.
What sets New Dundee apart from other communities is the spirit of volunteerism exhibited by its residents and businesses. Four strong volunteer organizations, the Board of Trade, the Optimists, the Women’s Institute and the volunteer fire department believe that the welfare of the town is a top priority. When confronted with challenges and projects too large to be handled individually, members of these organizations, with assistance from business, are able to meet in a spirit of cooperation and collaboration to work out successful results. The building of the community center, the parks improvement initiative and the organizing of Victoria Day celebrations are successful examples of these organizations working together.
Residents are fiercely proud of New Dundee and what the town offers them.
